McLaren has announced a record-breaking year for its sports and supercar sales in 2017, with a total of 3,340 vehicles sold—an increase of 54 units compared to 2016. Among these, 2,119 cars, or nearly two-thirds of the total, were part of the entry-level Sports Series, which includes the 570S along with its convertible and grand touring variants. The remaining 1,221 units came from the Super Series lineup, specifically the 650S and its high-performance successor, the 720S.

When examining sales by region, North America emerged as McLaren’s largest market, with 1,234 cars sold. Surprisingly, this includes not just the U.S. but also Canada and Mexico, making it the most profitable market for the British luxury sports car manufacturer, ahead of China, the UK, and even Dubai.

Mark Flewitt, McLaren’s CEO, commented on the strong demand for the brand across its various models in 2017, noting a particularly high interest from North America. He highlighted that most sales were driven by the Sports Series, which serves as the entry point for new customers exploring the McLaren brand.

Looking ahead, Flewitt anticipates a robust financial performance in the upcoming year, driven by the ramp-up in production of the 720S and the release of several Ultimate Series hypercars that are already sold out.

“With a solid order queue extending well into this summer, we expect that nearly 50% of our 2018 sales will come from the Super Series,” Flewitt stated. “At the same time, the Ultimate Series continues to exceed our expectations, with a fully booked order list for both the newly launched McLaren Senna and another upcoming model designated BP23,” he added..
