Alfa Romeo is making a bold return to the U.S. market, targeting established giants like BMW, Mercedes Benz, and Audi instead of settling for smaller competitors. The Italian automaker has taken a significant step with its Giulia sedan, which has surprisingly challenged the German brands’ dominant models, such as the BMW 3-Series and Audi A3, achieving notable success. As reported by Motoring, Alfa Romeo plans to expand its offerings by introducing a Sprint coupe version of the Giulia, set to be unveiled at the Geneva Auto Show in March.

Entering the coupe segment presents a formidable challenge for Alfa Romeo. For years, German manufacturers have led the market, particularly with the Audi A5 and BMW 4-Series, which consistently outperform competitors across various categories, delivering the driving experience customers desire while adhering to proven successful designs. If the Giulia Sprint coupe mirrors the performance of its sedan counterpart, it could disrupt the status quo, especially with the anticipated release of a more powerful Quadrifoglio variant.

The Giulia Sprint is expected to share many features with the sedan, including engine options. The standard powertrain will likely be a 280-horsepower 2.0-liter turbo-four, while the more powerful 2.9-liter twin-turbo V6 will likely be reserved for the Quadrifoglio version. The trim levels promise to be similar as well, ensuring that drivers enjoy the beloved characteristics of the Giulia sedan.

This move bolsters Alfa Romeo’s product lineup as it aims to launch seven distinct models by 2020. Just two years ago, the company offered only the lightweight 4C and its Spider model in the U.S. market. The addition of the Giulia Sprint will complement the Stelvio, Alfa’s eye-catching crossover designed to compete with its German rivals. By sharing essential elements like interior components and engine configurations, Alfa Romeo is poised to achieve its ambitious goals without incurring excessive costs, paving the way for success.
