What’s the best way to irritate half of the JDM community? Simply swap a Subaru with a 2JZ engine. To push the annoyance further, remove the Subaru’s all-wheel drive. If that’s not enough, just mention “headgasket failure,” and you’ll likely create at least two weeks’ worth of distress for enthusiasts.

After facing a decade and three destroyed engines—including one from a WRX STI—one Subaru Impreza 2.5 RS owner decided to take drastic action. He replaced it with a new 2JZ-GTE engine from a Toyota Supra. Loaded with an incredible range of upgrades, including a rear-wheel drive transformation and a six-speed manual conversion, this car bears little resemblance to its Subaru origins—and it might be seen as the JDM community’s pariah.

According to the seller, this beast currently generates an impressive 655 horsepower at the wheels. However, the video on the owner’s Instagram shows that finding traction in any gear could be a significant challenge.

Of course, if someone is willing to fork out for this vehicle, they likely won’t mind spending extra on tires. The combination of the Supra engine and its price tag has led to a staggering asking price of $150,000. The seller attributes the high cost to the considerable time, money, and effort invested in the project—though this method for assessing the value of any modified vehicle can often be misleading.

It’s worth noting that the owner doesn’t take everything too seriously, especially regarding the reasons behind this build. A glance at the Craigslist ad (or its archived version) will quickly clarify his mindset. Be warned: the ad is filled with colorful language and crying emojis, common indicators in the world of project cars.
