Bugatti Chiron’s Fuel Efficiency Ratings Revealed

The Bugatti Chiron is not an environmentally-friendly choice, and that’s clear to everyone involved—owners, Volkswagen, and the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), which has evaluated the vehicle’s fuel efficiency.

Bugatti reports that the Chiron, boasting an impressive 1,479 horsepower, achieves a combined fuel economy of 11 miles per gallon (mpg). This figure may seem low, but it is actually a slight improvement over its predecessor, the Veyron, which delivered a combined 10 mpg. Both cars feature the same powerful 8.0-liter quad-turbo W-16 engine, yet the Chiron manages to be a bit more efficient despite its increased performance capabilities.

When it comes to highway driving, however, the Veyron outperforms the Chiron, with the latter registering 14 mpg, just one mile per gallon less than the Veyron’s 15 mpg. In city driving conditions, the Chiron does come out ahead, offering 9 city mpg, compared to the Veyron’s 8, a notable distinction since most Chiron owners are likely to also have experience with the Veyron. A fuel efficiency contest between these two hypercars could prove quite fascinating.

The EPA estimates that the annual fuel cost for driving a Chiron is about $3,800, which translates to around $6.26 for every 25 miles driven. Those figures are substantial, but they pale in comparison to the expenses associated with replacing tires for a Veyron.
