Streetside Classics is offering a 1999 Acura Integra that has undergone an unconventional engine swap; instead of the usual Honda B- or K-series engines, it features an 8.2-liter Cadillac V8. This massive engine has been cleverly fitted into the spot typically occupied by the rear seats, secured using a subframe from a Cadillac Eldorado.
According to the listing, a General Motors Turbo-Hydramatic 425 three-speed transaxle is responsible for delivering that American muscle directly to the rear wheels.
The 8.2-liter V8 engine was originally installed in the Cadillac Eldorado from 1970 to 1976, producing 400 horsepower and 550 pound-feet of torque gross, excluding essential components like the water pump and alternator, which automakers often left out during that era’s testing. But this isn’t an ordinary model, as it is paired with a duo of 65 mm turbochargers that send boosted air through cabin-mounted intercoolers to a carburetor. It’s a swap that truly seems appropriate for the time.
Managing this power translates into requiring additional traction, which is why the builder replaced the factory wheels with a set of 17-inch alloys sourced from a Honda S2000, fitted with 245/45R17 tires at the rear. This modification not only enhances performance but also provides a polished, factory-like look. To accommodate the wider tires, an eye-catching widebody kit was affixed to the rear end, allowing the car to blend in seamlessly with the general public while still attracting the attention of dedicated ’90s Honda enthusiasts.
The asking price for this one-of-a-kind vehicle stands at $27,995. While this may not afford you a mid-engine Acura like the NSX, it could certainly outperform one in a straight-line race. In fact, it might very well give the current model a run for its money.
