Few rally vehicles have achieved the iconic status of the Audi Sport Quattro. This trailblazing all-wheel-drive car was driven by some of the finest racers in history, set records, and forever transformed the world of rallying. However, owning one of the road-legal versions of this legendary rally car can be prohibitively expensive; for instance, the latest model sold on Bring A Trailer fetched $446,000. Because most owners are hesitant to drive them vigorously, creating your own version of the Audi Sport Quattro by piecing together three different Audis might be the way to go.

This Audi Sport Quattro S1 replica was crafted by the Polish tuning firm Dytko Motorsports for Reini Sampl, an Austrian Paralympian and racing driver. Since acquiring the vehicle, Sampl has utilized it for winter driving instruction, enjoyed it on winding scenic roads, and even taken it to racetracks. Its modern mechanics allow him to do so without the worry that comes with owning a classic.

To create this replica, Dytko Motorsports utilized parts from three different Audis: a modern Audi RS3, an Audi 80, and a B2-generation Audi Coupe. The RS3’s chassis was stripped and then fitted with body parts from the other two models. The design of the front end was based on the Audi 80, while the remaining structure was taken from the Audi Coupe. A body kit resembling the Sport Quattro S1 was installed, along with a roll cage, followed by the application of the iconic S1 livery.

All essential mechanical components—including the engine, dual-clutch transmission, Haldex all-wheel drive system, brakes, and electronics—were sourced from the Audi RS3. Additionally, the car features an RS3 dashboard and steering wheel, which might seem out of place in this otherwise distinctly ’80s design. To accommodate Sampl’s paraplegia, the replica has been equipped with hand controls and a hydraulic hand brake.

While this replica may lack the nostalgic charm of the original, given its modern RS3 foundation, it is still impressive. The added functionality of hand controls tailored for a Paralympian enhances its appeal.
