Kalmar Automotive, a Danish firm known for its restomodding of Porsche 911s—specifically the 993 generation—entered the U.S. market earlier this year with support from Canepa, based in California. The initial offering was the 7-97 Classic model.

Now, Kalmar has introduced a more daring creation inspired by the Porsche 959, named the Kalmar 9X9. This vehicle made its official debut on Friday at The Quail, A Motorsports Gathering, a highlight of the recent 2024 Monterey Car Week.

The 9X9 comes in three distinct variants. The standard 9X9 is the most powerful, tailored for grand touring with a turbocharged 3.8-liter flat-6 engine that generates 930 horsepower. It features a dual-clutch automatic transmission and an all-wheel-drive system.

For those seeking a track-ready experience, the Sport version is equipped with a turbocharged 3.0-liter flat-6 engine, producing 650 horsepower. This version also has all-wheel drive but opts for a manual transmission instead of the dual-clutch automatic. The Sport is lighter and has a suspension designed for racing rather than long-distance driving.

The third option is the Leichtbau—German for “lightweight construction.” As the lightest model, it features a naturally aspirated 4.0-liter flat-6 engine producing 530 horsepower, paired with a manual transmission and rear-wheel drive. Its weight is just 2,811 pounds.

All three versions of the 9X9 start with a 993-generation 911 as the base. The vehicles undergo a comprehensive stripping process and are fitted with a hidden roll cage, along with various chassis enhancements, including custom suspension developed by Italy’s Danisi Engineering. The braking system is a unique setup created by CarboBrake, featuring titanium calipers made through 3D printing technology.

While Kalmar has not disclosed specific performance statistics, the company claims that the bodywork can generate nearly 3,200 pounds of downforce at peak performance, with simulations suggesting a Nürburgring lap time of approximately seven minutes.

Kalmar produces a limited number of vehicles each year, with each one tailored to individual customer specifications, making every Kalmar a unique creation. The company is currently accepting orders for the 9X9, with initial deliveries expected by mid-2025. U.S. customers can place orders through Canepa, which specializes in the sale, restoration, and customization of the Porsche 959.
