Tesla has wisely seized the chance to offer trendy, high-priced Cybertruck-themed accessories to its dedicated fan base, a common strategy among brands that market six-figure vehicles. Therefore, the introduction of a cooler with a design reminiscent of the Cybertruck is not unexpected. However, what is surprising is that the cooler itself falls flat in terms of functionality, resembling a cyberpunk toilet tank, and it comes with a staggering price tag of $700.
On the surface, the Cybertruck Cooler may not seem like a terrible value, despite its steep cost. Insulated coolers generally carry a hefty price, and Tesla’s offering features a stainless steel exterior that mirrors the truck’s distinctive body panels. It is designed to fit snugly in the Cybertruck’s frunk (front trunk). In comparison, a similarly sized Yeti cooler with stainless steel cladding retails for $800, making Tesla’s pricing somewhat competitive. However, the Yeti cooler is not only larger but also better shaped for practical use. The Tesla cooler does include two dividers to help segregate hard seltzers from spritz canned drinks. Additionally, the “Cyberbeers” illustrated on the cooler appear to cater to a niche reminiscent of the cult from the show Yellowjackets.
Additionally, the cooler’s design may limit its effectiveness for beverage storage. Built specifically to fit in the truck’s frunk, its dimensions are not well-suited for taller bottles, and the numerous corners make stacking cans a bit cumbersome. Ultimately, it cannot compete with more traditional coolers due to its lack of essential features such as pull-down latches for secure closure during transport, wheels, or any other conveniences typically found in high-end models.
If you choose to buy this cooler, it will be primarily for its perfect fit in the frunk, allowing you to maximize bed space—while also showing your allegiance to the brand. However, it’s worth noting that competitors, such as the Ford F-150 Lightning and Chevy Silverado EV, feature rubber-lined frunks complete with drain plugs that allow them to serve as large coolers as well.
Despite its geeky appeal, the Cybertruck Cooler does have some merits. Its pricing, while steep, is somewhat justifiable in the cooler market and for automotive merchandise, especially considering its 56-quart capacity and compact design that doesn’t occupy bed space. Although it’s not the most outrageous automotive accessory available, it still feels excessive to pay $700 for a cooler that resembles something you would find in a plumbing supply shop in Mega-City One rather than something crafted for chilling drinks.
