With the aim of easing financial pressures, the Queensland Government has unveiled a 20% reduction in registration charges for all small vehicles (including trailers) weighing up to 4.5 tonnes, effective from 16 September 2024. This decision is expected to greatly benefit caravan and tow vehicle owners in the state.

Crucial points:

  • 20% decrease in registration fees: This decrease applies to all eligible small vehicles for a duration of 12 months.
  • 20% cut for RV holders: Owners of caravans and tow vehicles will experience a joint 20% discount on their registrations.
  • Assistance for families: Commending the initiative, Jason Plant, Chief Executive Officer of Caravanning Queensland, viewed it as a positive move to assist families who love traveling in their vans in affording their next road journey.

Bart Mellish MP, the Minister for Transport and Main Roads, pointed out the launch date and the specific vehicles targeted, underscoring the government’s dedication to alleviating financial strains on residents of Queensland.

Caravanning continues to be a favored option for cost-effective getaways

The recent Let’s Go Queensland Caravan and Camping Supershow, organized by Caravanning Queensland, exhibited the continuous popularity of caravanning as a vacation preference. Hosted at the Brisbane RNA Showgrounds, the event showcased nearly 250 exhibitors displaying the newest camper trailers, motorhomes, tent trailers, caravans, and accessories.

Insights from the industry:

  • Family purchasers: Jason Lawrence, Director at Lawrence RV, shared that a surprising 50% of sales for their Lotus and Atlas caravan models were from families, despite the challenging economic conditions.
  • Interest from retirees: Mark Rixon, the National Sales Manager at Paradise Luxury Motor Homes, observed a growing interest from self-funded retirees seeking luxury and elegance in their RVs.

Achievements and innovative approaches at the Supershow

Jason Plant, the CEO of the Caravan Trade and Industries Association of Queensland, noted a strong turnout during the five-day event, with the highest attendance on Saturday. This year’s event strived to be more than just a caravan exhibition, incorporating the new RV Touring Hub and the popular Weight, Towing, and Touring educational Masterclasses.

A promising outlook for RV aficionados in Queensland

The announcement of the 2024-25 budget and the triumphant Supershow underscore the lively and resilient essence of Queensland’s caravanning community. With notable savings on registrations and a successful turnout at the Supershow, the future appears bright for RV enthusiasts across the state.
