While I may not be fluent in the language of automotive designers, distinguishing a visually appealing vehicle comes naturally to me, and I am particularly impressed by the introduction of the 2023 Cadillac Lyriq. Serving as Cadillac’s pioneering all-electric model, the Lyriq has garnered predominantly favorable feedback and appears to be achieving notable sales figures. Explore our driving experiences with the Lyriq here, and listen to our podcast analysis here.
Delving into design excitement
Cadillac Lyriq: Top Automotive Designs
After observing numerous Lyriqs in everyday traffic, what stands out to me the most is that, without violating many current design norms, this medium-sized Cadillac is unmistakable from a distance and distinctive from almost every viewpoint.
Front Appearance and Grille
Commendations are in order for Caddy’s designers for preserving the grille at the front. Despite the lack of a traditional radiator for external airflow requirements in EVs, a prominent grille has long been an iconic feature of Cadillacs, and the Lyriq’s front pays homage to this tradition aptly.
The straightforward and striking headlight structures draw attention to the substantial tires when viewed head-on, imparting the Lyriq with a robust, substantial, and grounded look.

Silhouette
The profile of the Lyriq arguably defines the crossover’s appearance. Due to the absence of a traditional distinct endpoint in the EV’s profile, it creates an illusion of being longer and lower than its actual dimensions. Although it is comparatively lower in height and longer than BMW’s midsize X5, the Lyriq’s profile exudes a – dare I say – station-wagon resemblance, in the most favorable way possible. Additionally, the Lyriq gives off a substantial presence on the road, as befitting of a premium vehicle.
Rear View
At the rear, the arrangement of lights framing the rear glass outlines the slope and conclusion of the roof, rendering the Lyriq’s appearance modern and aerodynamic from this angle.
Interior
The interior is pleasantly straightforward, with the large seamless touchscreen serving as both the instrument cluster and central console being the main focal point. It exudes cleanliness, efficiency, and effectiveness. Furthermore, it embraces modernity without unnecessary complexity.
Some spontaneous design musings: The Lyriq is…
- Contemporary, yet not excessively provocative
- Streamlined, yet embodying substance
- Neat, while still intricately crafted
Moreover, the Lyriq exudes uniqueness without overtly appearing excessively “electric.”
Recap
In conclusion, Cadillac deserves praise for developing its initial electric vehicle with a fresh and futuristic aesthetic without resorting to an overtly bold EV design. Cadillac will soon introduce several new electric vehicles, including the Vistiq with three rows. Anticipation is high to witness these new models on the streets and observe how well Cadillac’s EV design language carries over throughout its lineup.
