We are enthusiastic about German high-performance sedans. Nonetheless, these vehicles have gained considerable mass in recent times, whether it’s the fresh Mercedes-AMG E63 or the latest iteration of the BMW M5.

The G90 BMW M5 might be the most dominant of the lineup, but the hybrid powertrain does add to the overall weight. So, how does the new M5 stack up against its predecessor?

The 2025 BMW M5 is propelled by the renowned 4.4-liter twin-turbo V8 engine from the XM. It is coupled with an electric motor for a total output of 717 hp and 738 lb-ft of torque.

The 8-speed automatic gearbox and the xDrive all-wheel drive configuration enable the M5 to sprint from 0 to 60 mph in 3.4 seconds and hit a maximum speed of 190 mph with the M Driver’s Package. The hybrid setup includes a 14.8 kWh battery that gives the vehicle an electric range of 25 miles.

Impressive statistics, isn’t it? However, the new M5, weighing in at 5,390 lbs, is considerably heavier than its precursor. This is mainly attributable to the hybrid system and its bulky battery pack.

In terms of design, the fresh M5 retains the muscular appearance of its forerunner. It adheres to BMW’s latest design language with more angular surfaces. The front fascia showcases a sizable yet proportional grille with an illuminated frame, LED headlights featuring a new DRL signature, and a dynamic bumper. At the rear end, you’ll discover sleek LED taillights, a diffuser, and quad exhaust outlets.

Internally, the BMW M5 is equipped with a spacious curved screen housing the digital gauge cluster and a central touchscreen. It boasts body-contouring sport seats and a 3-spoke steering wheel incorporating the iconic red M mode buttons.

The starting price for the 2025 BMW M5 is $120,675, with deliveries slated to commence later this year.
