At the debut of the Bugatti Veyron in 2005, it completely transformed high-performance vehicles, establishing new standards. The idea of Ferdinand Piech, Chairman of Volkswagen Group, was to design an automobile with 1,000 horsepower, a maximum velocity of 400 km/h, and a price label of 1 million euros. The outcome was the Veyron, showcasing a 16-cylinder engine with four turbochargers, delivering 1,001 hp and 922 ft-lb of torque. Surpassing 400km/h in maximum speed, the Veyron instantly gained legendary status. Pushing this legacy even further was the Bugatti Veyron 16.4 Grand Sport Vitesse. Equipped with an 8-liter W16 engine generating 1,200 hp and 1,500 NM of torque, it could accelerate from 0-100 km/h in merely 2.6 seconds and reach a top speed of 415 km/h, all with the roof section removed. Bugatti enhanced the powertrain with larger turbochargers, upgraded intercoolers, and strengthened components to guarantee the Vitesse’s reliability and performance. Aerodynamic adjustments, such as expanded air intakes and a refined rear diffuser, assist in maintaining stability at high velocities.
Chassis 8,100, a unique Bugatti Veyron Grand Sport Vitesse, was directly commissioned from Bugatti in Molsheim in 2014 by a notable buyer and is currently up for sale by Mechatronik in Germany. The objective was to develop the most complex and captivating iteration of the Veyron. Bugatti’s top designers, including Achim Anscheidt and Laurent Chevalley, meticulously fabricated this vehicle using original materials and refined design principles inspired by the Veyron 16.4 Pur Sang.
The original Pur Sang featured only five units constructed, highlighting a carbon center section and polished aluminum sides. For Chassis 8,100, the client requested an entirely aluminum front bumper and seamless side panels, resulting in the necessity to develop special CAD programs. These panels were meticulously crafted from solid aluminum blocks exceeding 20 tons, leading to exceptionally high production costs.
Despite Bugatti’s initial hesitation due to the complexity and expense, the client’s significant influence and insistence on perfection led to the car being meticulously crafted as requested.
Finalized in 2015, this Grand Sport Vitesse represents the most extreme and time-intensive Bugatti ever assembled, with enhancements surpassing the base model’s cost.
