As per Automotive News, Hyundai is initiating two distinct recalls impacting nearly 600,000 vehicles.
The primary one involves a secondary hood latch cable discovered in specific 2013-2017 model year Santa Fe and Santa Fe Sport crossovers that may corrode prematurely. This issue affects 437,400 cars and could result in hoods not securing correctly, presenting a safety hazard if the hood remains improperly closed.
Hyundai spokesperson Michael Stewart mentioned, “There have been three instances where the hoods actually opened, however, most complaints revolved around the hood being stuck shut.” Evidently, this problem is more widespread among Hyundais in the “Salt Belt” regions, for obvious reasons.
The second, less extensive corrosion-related recall addresses a parking brake warning light that may fail to activate due to a corroded switch. (To put it simply, this component.) This impacts 150,000 Sonatas and 10,800 Genesises produced in 2015 and 2016.
