A groundbreaking creation has been unveiled by this startup – an Electric Vehicle restomod inspired by the 1989-1991 Jeep Grand Wagoneer, priced at approximately the median cost of a dwelling in South Dakota.

The startup presents a solitary landing page, as displayed above, that discloses all available details about the venture, albeit somewhat limited in specifics. Comprised of engineers from the Osirius Group, a consultancy firm in the automotive sector, Ghost Garage was acknowledged in a post on Osirius’s LinkedIn feed. The decision to focus on the Grand Wagoneer was fueled by its substantial dimensions, making it an ideal candidate for EV conversion, and one of the Group’s founders delved into the automotive industry due to a deep-rooted affection for the square-bodied Jeep. The Drive reached out to an Osiris representative who shared further insights about the initiative.
As disclosed by the spokesperson, the Jeep resto-mod project was initiated to provide a public platform for Osirius, as most of its automotive endeavors remain confidential. While not aiming for mass production – with estimates pointing to a production volume in the teens – the primary aim is to demonstrate the firm’s engineering and manufacturing capabilities through this technology and product showcase. The company is in the process of developing its inaugural prototype, with the configuration of the drivetrain and battery pack pending finalization, sourced either from an original equipment manufacturer (OEM) or a prominent supplier. Ghost Garage manages the acquisition of donor vehicles, thus factored into the $295,000 base price; customers will have the opportunity to refine their specifications, focusing on retaining the original exterior while allowing for customizable interiors. In the words of the spokesperson: “Should you desire Recaro seats… we’ll work on accommodating that.” Initial deliveries are slated for the summer of 2023, with promises of further specifications to be revealed.
The ’80s Grand Wagoneer generated approximately 140 horsepower from its 5.9-liter V8; the enhancements required to accommodate 500 horsepower without strain on the chassis remain undefined. A parallel undertaking was executed by Ford – the Eluminator truck concept, propelled by dual Mach-E GT motors at the front and rear, producing a combined 480 horsepower. Nevertheless, this was a one-off demonstration at SEMA and not targeted for commercial production, supported by the full backing of an established OEM.
