Grand Theft Auto Online has remained a highly sought-after multiplayer game for more than ten years. Despite its age, this open-world multiplayer game continues to captivate players. It wasn’t until after 11 years that players finally got what they had been requesting since the game’s launch—you can now take control of the train.
There is a catch, though. While the train is now drivable, it’s limited to a specific mission. You can’t simply hijack the train during free-roam gameplay like you would a car and wreak havoc along the railway. Instead, you need to participate in the Cluckin’ Bell Farm Raid mission, which involves escaping from adversaries by commandeering the train.

During the mission, adversaries attempt to impede your progress by foolishly placing their machine gun-equipped trucks on the tracks. Predictably, a collision between your unstoppable train and their compact pickups results in chaos. As the mission can be played solo or with up to three companions, plowing through NPC-driven trucks can be an enjoyable group activity. Unfortunately, the train segment of the mission is rather brief, cutting short any plans for railroad mischief.
Now that Rockstar has introduced the ability to operate the train, it’s only natural for players to desire more opportunities. Particularly because commandeering the train in GTA: San Andreas and then causing havoc by derailing it onto a highway was immensely enjoyable. However, there’s no indication that Rockstar will enable train operation beyond this single mission. Will Rockstar feature the train in upcoming missions? Possibly, but with the impending release of Grand Theft Auto 6, they may be reserving some free-roam railway chaos for a later date.
