The Ford Motor Company has declared a safety recall affecting around 215 Ford Fusions manufactured in 2010 and Lincoln MKZ vehicles made between 2010-2012. The problem revolves around a flaw in the airbag modules that may cause the passenger airbags to not inflate properly.

As per Ford’s statement released last Friday, Nov. 2, the vehicles covered by the recall could contain a bracket responsible for the malfunctioning airbags. This specific bracket secures the airbag inflator to the module housing, and it has been identified as having the potential to distort and allow gas leakage, necessary for inflating the airbag upon deployment.

Although Ford mentions no existing accidents or injuries resulting from the defect, the company recognizes the possibility of injuries stemming from a partially inflated airbag during a collision.

Ford has revealed that approximately 215 vehicles in North America are part of the recall, including:

  • 2010 Ford Fusion vehicles built at Hermosillo Assembly Plant, manufactured from February 26, 2010 through June 21, 2010
  • 2010-12 Lincoln MKZ vehicles built at Hermosillo Assembly Plant, manufactured from March 10, 2009 through July 16, 2012

If uncertain about your vehicle’s inclusion in this group, you can verify using your Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) at SafeCar.gov.

Owners of these affected vehicles are urged to contact their local Ford dealership for the replacement of the passenger-side airbag module. The reference number to provide dealers for this recall is 18S34, and the issue will be rectified at zero cost to the vehicle owners.
