Stellantis is envisioning significant advancements in electrification, and as mentioned previously, Alfa Romeo is set to be the pioneer brand in North America to transition fully to electric vehicles. According to a report by CAR, an Alfa electric vehicle could potentially be introduced as early as 2024. This announcement precedes the unveiling of the Tonale SUV by just one day, a model that signifies the shift from traditional combustion engines to electric power within the company’s lineup.

During an interview with CAR, Alfa Romeo’s CEO, Jean-Philippe Imperato, stated: “Starting in 2025, all new vehicle launches will be electric. The introduction of the Tonale marks the initial phase in Alfa Romeo’s electrification journey. However, Alfa Romeo’s essence will always remain paramount, with electrification complementing the brand rather than defining it.”

The Tonale, which was initially introduced as a concept vehicle a few years ago, will be unveiled as part of an event called La Metamorfosi by Alfa. This event alludes to Stellantis’ artistic marketing approach, drawing inspiration from Kafka’s Metamorphoses. The specific variants of the Tonale destined for the American market are yet to be confirmed, but a plug-in hybrid version will be available in European markets. Alfa Romeo’s spokesperson in the U.S. declined to provide any additional information when contacted.

“In 2025,” Imperato further stated, “We will introduce a highly innovative full EV performance vehicle, after which all new Alfa Romeo models will exclusively be electric.”

Following the Tonale, Alfa Romeo is reportedly planning to release a version of the Jeep Renegade and a larger SUV, suggesting that it might be after 2025 before we witness more high-performance Alfas. During this period, Alfa Romeo is deviating from Stellantis’ trend of screen-centric car interiors by opting for a minimalist approach to infotainment systems.

In the meantime, enthusiasts can admire this unique Giulia EV restomod.
