General Motors is showcasing new electric vehicles at an impressive pace. Last year witnessed the introduction of the latest Chevy Equinox EV, Chevy Blazer EV, GMC Sierra EV, and more. The recent revelation by Cadillac that three new models will be unveiled this week is in line with the increasing trend. While we have a glimpse of what at least one of these vehicles might be, the details are still under wraps.
It’s crucial to note that these are mere introductory announcements. Considering the slow production launch of the Lyriq, it might be a while before we see these new models hitting the roads. Cadillac’s President, Rory Harvey, has outlined that production for all three models will commence next year. The initial Cadillac model that will likely grace our streets is a compact crossover, possibly built on the platform of the Equinox EV.
Observers have caught glimpses of the heavily disguised car roaming the area. It carries a silhouette reminiscent of the Equinox EV with the distinctive sharp lines that define Cadillac’s electric vehicle lineup. Despite the camouflage, it’s evident that the vehicle’s front end bears resemblance to the Lyriq.
The remaining two models remain shrouded in mystery, but there are some fundamental insights into forthcoming Cadillac models that could align with them. GM recently registered trademarks for names such as Optiq, Ascendiq, Lumistiq, and Vistiq. Additionally, names like Escalade IQ and Escalade IQL were also trademarked. It’s fairly predictable what to expect from a vehicle bearing the Escalade name, and there is a high chance that an electric variant may be unveiled soon. Such a model would probably share a platform with the Chevy Silverado EV and GMC’s electric pickups.
The possibility of sedans cannot be discounted. GM has yet to introduce any electric sedans apart from the substantial Celestiq. Given the strong demand for crossovers, the development of a smaller sedan could be a debatable choice. However, Cadillac remains GM’s final proponent of sleek four-door models. The brand still offers the CT4 and CT5, both of which have been performing well in terms of sales. These models were unveiled around 2020 and are expected to remain on the market until 2026. The debut of a compact sedan in 2023 could be considered premature, although indications suggest that at least one of these unveilings might occur towards the end of the year.
