In a scene from Tokyo Drift: Han casually offers Sean the “The red Evo’s yours.” Miraculously, this dream turned into reality for a man in the U.K., albeit with a tragic twist unlike the heroic portrayal in what The Drive‘s deputy editor Kristen Lee hails as the best Fast & Furious film.

Recently, Dream Car Giveaways in the U.K. granted a lucky individual their fantasy car – a vibrant red Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution IX. To be precise, an FQ-320 edition with 70,000 miles on the clock, a complete service history, undergoing “a few subtle enhancements,” a recent paint job, and an extra $1,400 equivalent set aside for maintenance costs. From the photos on DCG’s official site, it’s evidently a meticulously maintained model.

Dream Car Giveaways

“Surely, he will savor numerous joyful miles with this beauty!” the organization joyously shared on social media as the winner took possession of the impressive Lancer. Boasting a legendary all-wheel drive, a powerful two-liter engine under the hood, and the next few oil changes already catered for – what could possibly go wrong, right?

Unfortunately, the prediction of “many happy miles” would soon turn into bitter irony. Merely a day after taking the car home, the Evo was in a single-car accident resulting in severe damage to both the front and rear sections, ultimately rendering it a complete write-off.

According to South Wales Police via Twitter:

For clarification, Cardiff Road in Pontypridd stands approximately 90 miles away from the address listed on Dream Car Giveaway’s Facebook page. And just in case there were any doubts regarding the wrecked Evo’s identity, the giveaway organizers took to social media again to confirm it.

Addressing the unfortunate incident, the company posted:

Life is filled with ups and downs. Perhaps the Evo enthusiast, in hindsight, wishes those ups and downs weren’t quite so immediate.
