Alfa Romeo is reportedly preparing for the debut of a new premier sports car, a model that will define the brand’s future path. While the final production vehicle is not anticipated until 2025 at the earliest, as per Autocar, Alfa Romeo is expected to unveil a concept version of this upcoming sports car by the conclusion of 2023. Interestingly, the exact powertrain for the vehicle has not yet been confirmed.

The CEO of Alfa Romeo, Jean-Philippe Imparato, mentioned that the original plan was to introduce an all-new electric sports car by the end of the decade. However, there is speculation that this may happen sooner with an internal combustion engine (ICE) instead, as reported by Autocar.
“At the moment, I am considering two potential scenarios: complete ICE or total EV,” stated Imparato. He emphasized that in either case, the outcome will be “highly exhilarating, exclusive, and luxurious.” This suggests that the new sports car may have limited availability and serve as a flagship model for the brand.
Regardless of the development path chosen for this new Alfa Romeo sports car, enthusiasts can look forward to a glimpse of it next year. Alfa Romeo appears keen on showcasing a concept car or perhaps a preliminary sketch of the sports car in 2023. Imparato stressed that this unnamed model will embody the sporty essence synonymous with the brand.
When questioned if the forthcoming sports car will mirror the striking and iconic Alfa Romeo T33 Stradale, Imparato responded, “I can affirm that it will, but further details are confidential.” This may hint at a mid-engine configuration like the T33, unless an electric setup is chosen.
The previous flagship mid-engine sports car from Alfa Romeo was the 4C, featuring a carbon fiber chassis and a four-cylinder powerplant. It will be intriguing to observe whether Alfa Romeo equips this new model with a carbon tub and the propulsion system it ultimately adopts.
