The Dodge Challenger has demonstrated its popularity as a muscular vehicle following its contemporary revival, with the fierce Hellcat and Demon editions dominating the lineup. Meanwhile, a certain firm envisioned an alternative reality where, instead of utilizing supercharged V8 engines, the Challenger was equipped with the V10 engine from a Dodge Viper, turning it into a reality. Now, this vehicle can be yours.
According to a report from Engine Swap Depot, the particular car initially began its journey as a modest V6 model. Initially featuring the 3.6-liter Pentastar powerplant, it produced a mere 300 horsepower in its factory configuration. However, once it landed in the hands of Prefix Corporation, the basic powertrain was swiftly replaced with the 8.4-liter V10 derived from the fourth-generation Dodge Viper. This potent engine delivers 600 horsepower and 560 lb-ft of torque.
Naturally, the original V6 drivetrain wasn’t designed to handle such power, and as a result, it was promptly replaced. Instead, the V10 engine now works in harmony with a Tremec six-speed manual transmission and a 3.92 ratio differential borrowed from a 2014 Challenger SRT-8. The vehicle sits on 20-inch wheels reminiscent of the SRT style, equipped with Fullway HP108 tires on all four corners.
Due to the engine swap, it’s plausible that the handling characteristics may differ from the stock setup. The Viper V10 engine isn’t the lightest powerplant available, weighing in at around 650 pounds, significantly more than the Pentastar V6 which typically weighs under 400 pounds in most trims. Nonetheless, the Viper unit still retains a lighter profile compared to the Hellcat V8, which registers a weight of approximately 875 pounds.
Prefix also took care of required enhancements. The Challenger is equipped with adjustable coilovers, a necessary inclusion given the heavier engine which would likely demand a suspension upgrade. Additionally, the vehicle features a Wilwood big brake kit with vivid red calipers to assist in stopping power.
Furthermore, the car boasts a quirky rear wing and ACR decals adorning the front fenders, reminiscent of the top-tier high-performance variants of the adored Viper. It is important to note that the interior seems predominantly untouched, offering a similar experience to that of a basic V6 Challenger.
The car is currently listed for sale on Bring a Trailer, accompanied by an accident-free Carfax report and a clean Michigan title. Interestingly, it is worth mentioning that the vehicle was previously utilized as a rental, a role more suitable for a V6 Challenger. However, its transformation is quite remarkable. The odometer shows 7,000 miles, although the exact mileage of the vehicle remains uncertain. It likely falls within the mid-200s range, considering it was at 192,000 miles as per the 2022 Carfax report.
At the moment, the current bid stands slightly above $22,000. It is expected that this figure will increase as the auction nears its closing on Saturday.
