This incident unfolded like a mishap-filled onion, replete with layers. Initially, the rider was riding on the sidewalk, making the collision primarily their responsibility. Even though one could argue that the delivery driver should have checked for oncoming traffic from the right, it would have been challenging to anticipate a moped hurtling down the sidewalk. It could also be contended that the delivery truck obstructed the bike lane, which indeed occurred, thereby forcing the rider onto the sidewalk. However, in that scenario, the moped operator would have been better off utilizing the street rather than the sidewalk.
The last layer involves the helmet, which seemed inadequately secured to the rider’s head, evident from its easy dislodgement during the collision. While I am not a safety expert, I am fairly certain that helmets need to remain affixed to be effective. Ensure that strap is tightened, folks.
Fortunately, no significant injuries were apparent, and the purported Audi customer, a mere bystander in this chaotic sequence of events, will likely entrust the dealership with resolving the matter. Since the customer presumably had not officially signed for the vehicle and it was struck before fully entering the driveway, the dealership will probably address the situation. Nevertheless, it is striking how numerous misfortunes unfolded during this peculiar car delivery.
