Enthusiasts of wagons in America have endured years of disappointment, witnessing the SUV dominate the market and overshadow their preferred body style. Recent accounts indicated that Audi might introduce the RS4 Avant wagon to the US, sparking a ray of hope. However, the German automaker has swiftly dismissed these rumors, extinguishing any sense of optimism.

The initial speculation originated from Motor Trend, which caught wind of the notion following an alleged slip-up by one of Audi’s public relations representatives in Germany. Allegedly, during a press event, when journalists suggested that the wagon model exclusive to Europe would be desirable in the US, a PR representative insinuated that it would indeed be available for purchase in America. On Tuesday, Motor Trend reported that an insider source at Audi corroborated the rumor, indicating that the high-performance wagon would soon be accessible Stateside. Reportedly, following the success of the RS6 Avant wagon, selling 2,000 units rapidly in the US, preparations were underway for the American debut of the RS4.

Nonetheless, when approached, Audi promptly quashed the speculations. “As conveyed to [Motor Trend], there are no intentions to bring the RS 4 to the US market,” Audi representatives informed The Drive on Tuesday evening.

This statement closely mirrors the one provided to Motor Trend, stating the company has “no current plans to introduce the RS4 in the U.S. market.” Although the last three words left room for speculation, the statement to The Drive decisively quashed the rumor.

It is regrettable that the US seems likely to miss out on the exhilaration of the RS4 wagon. Unfortunately, for now, wagon enthusiasts will have to seek alternatives beyond Audi to satisfy their cravings.
