Arriving in Mexico is the 2025 Subaru WRX Sportwagon, serving yet another exclusive offering to the auto market just below the U.S. border. Enthusiasts here unfortunately miss out on this opportunity. The proximity of the Mexican market adds temptation, which is a tease for car lovers near the southern border like myself. The availability of a manual WRX wagon so close to the U.S. rather than its usual markets like Australia and Japan is a refreshing change.

The presale for the 2025 Subaru WRX Sportwagon in Mexico has begun, with availability slated for later this year. Powered by the familiar 2.4-liter turbocharged boxer engine, delivering 271 horsepower at 5,600 rpm and 259 lb-ft of torque at 2,000 rpm, the new WRX Sportwagon will feature Subaru’s signature symmetrical AWD. While a CVT option exists, the standout highlight is the inclusion of a standard six-speed manual transmission, offered at an affordable price point for the Mexican market. In fact, the manual variant will be the most affordable model, as it rightly should be!

At launch, three model grades will be available, starting with the base WRX High 6MT model priced at $819,900 pesos, equivalent to just over $48,500 at the current exchange rates. The WRX tS CVT tops the range as the priciest model, boasting a total price of $919,900 pesos, or about $54,500, as per current exchange rates.

The debut of the Subaru WRX Wagon in Mexico is not entirely novel according to Autocosmos. This version made its entrance in 2022 in the global market but was previously known as the Subaru Levorg. The name isn’t a reference to “le cyborg” but instead merges legacy, revolution, and touring. The connection to the first term is evident as the model once shared a platform with the Impreza or WRX, as well as the now-discontinued Legacy sedan. “Touring” commonly alludes to wagons, a term often associated with BMW models.

The Subaru WRX Wagon in Mexico is stated by Autocosmos to be a unique offering in the country in terms of performance wagons. When examined across the North American continent, the WRX Sportwagon would find itself in esteemed company alongside Audi and BMW.

In the U.S., Audi markets the RS6 Avant wagon, while BMW recently confirmed plans to bring the M5 Touring to American shores. While the performance levels of the WRX manual wagon may not match those of the RS6 Avant and M5 Touring, their intentions align. Moreover, the Audi and BMW longroof performance models are priced well above the Subaru, both exceeding the $100,000 price point.

The likelihood of the WRX Sportwagon expanding further into the U.S. market is slim. However, if it were to happen, it would offer a competitive alternative to Audi and BMW wagons at a more accessible price point.
