The discontinuation of the Ram 1500 TRX is set for the conclusion of 2023. Ram revealed this information on a Wednesday morning, introducing the TRX Final Edition, a limited run of 4,000 final models reminiscent of Dodge’s phasedown of Charger and Challenger production. These models will be available in addition to the standard TRX, offering ample opportunities to acquire a 702-horsepower super truck before Ram transitions in December. As the saying goes: instead of being sad that it’s ending, be grateful that it happened.
It seems like just recently that the Hellcat-powered pickup made its debut, but in reality, it’s been three years. This was a significant moment in enhancing power in the performance off-road sector. Ram quickly responded to the demand for a supercharged V8 4×4 well before the Ford F-150 Raptor R. Although the starting price for the 2024 model year has increased by $10,000 to $95,490, it’s still notably lower than Ford’s $110,000 model.
Ram has clarified that while the current TRX production is wrapping up, there are new developments in progress. The specifics of its power source—whether gas, electric, or a hybrid—have yet to be disclosed.
CEO of Ram, Tim Kuniskis, mentioned in a press release: “The arrival of the Ram 1500 TRX marked a significant evolution in off-road performance trucks with lasting impact for years to come. This current phase of Ram’s high-performance trucks is drawing to a close, but it doesn’t signify the end of the TRX’s journey. While more updates will be revealed later, we take pride in offering our dedicated performance enthusiasts the extraordinary TRX 6.2L Supercharged V8 – Final Edition.”
There is doubt within some circles about the imminent arrival of a fully electric TRX. Ram, being the final member of the trio to delve into electric trucks, is introducing a segment-exclusive range-extender engine as a countermeasure to premature electrification. Expect changes in the 6.2-liter engine and beyond.
For those interested in the exclusive Final Edition, the cost stands at $119,620. This variant boasts three new unique paint choices—Delmonico Red, Night Edge Blue, and Harvest Sunrise—along with beadlock-capable wheels, distinct graphics and interior stitching, and the most advanced tech package. Despite maintaining the same power figures, with the truck already capable of a 12-second quarter-mile, this enhancement should meet the needs of most buyers.
