An exceptionally clean dashboard design has been created for the interior of the Rivian R3. Physical buttons are notable by their absence; instead, the driver is presented with a digital gauge cluster and a larger center touchscreen. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto (which Rivian doesn’t offer) would be a welcome addition for a car aimed at a younger audience, but the system will run the brand’s bespoke software that will be updated over the air.

The ventilation outlets appear to be concealed in a narrow strip that runs across the dashboard, while passengers in the second row have access to their own vents. The seats in the Rivian R3 appear to be fashioned from a sporty, sustainable cloth/faux leather combination. Between the use of light colors and a glass roof, the cabin appears airy. The R3X has a more adventurously trimmed interior with warmer colors and sporty touches like a center marker on the flat-bottom steering wheel.

There are many storage spaces dotted around the cabin, including twin glove boxes, a large open area below the touchscreen interface, and a rear fold-down armrest with cupholders. However, the cargo space in the Rivian R3 won’t be as generous as in the R2 since the body is five inches shorter. The liftover height also seems to be quite high, so loading heavier items may be more difficult.

Rivian hasn’t detailed all the features in the R3, but we spotted heated front/rear seats and a number of USB-C ports. There is also a new steering wheel with integrated haptic control dials. We’ll update this first look with more information as it becomes available from the automaker.
