Three years into the current WRX lineup, Subaru continues to keep fans waiting for the STI version. Instead of delivering the highly anticipated Subaru rally sedan, the automaker has revealed the 2025 Subaru WRX tS, which adds subtle enhancements to the existing model.

The “tS” designation stands for “tuned by STI,” and the primary mechanical upgrade compared to last year’s WRX TR is the introduction of electronic adaptive dampers sourced from the GT model, albeit adjusted by STI. Similar to the TR, the tS features Recaro Ultrasuede seats and Brembo brakes, which now include larger pads and rotors—the six-piston front and dual-piston rear calipers are adorned in gold. These components are paired with 19-inch wheels fitted with 245-section Bridgestone Potenza S007 tires.

The WRX tS is offered exclusively with a manual transmission and does not feature a moonroof, which Subaru claims helps reduce weight, lowers the center of gravity, and provides more space for helmet storage.

On the tech side, the 2025 WRX includes a fully digital 12.3-inch instrument cluster, akin to the one in a Porsche 911. However, the interior design features dated mountain wallpaper and visually complex milled-alloy gauges that suggest a retro look reminiscent of a 2007 vision of 2024 design.

While it’s positive that Subaru is integrating more technology into its rally sport compacts, it may be time for the brand to move beyond labels like “tuned by STI” and “Tuner Ready” and simply unveil the long-awaited WRX STI.

The 2025 Subaru WRX tS will officially be showcased at the Wicked Big Meet on June 2 in Stafford, Connecticut, which is recognized as the largest Subaru enthusiast event in the country. It is expected to arrive at dealerships in the first quarter of 2025, with pricing details yet to be announced. As a reminder, the Subaru WRX features a 2.4-liter turbocharged flat-four engine, offering 271 horsepower and 258 lb-ft of torque through its symmetrical all-wheel-drive system.
