The arrival of the U.S. market’s first all-electric minivan, the Volkswagen ID. Buzz, is imminent, but its high starting price of over $60,000 may keep it out of reach for many American families. Featuring playful, retro aesthetics alongside a contemporary and functional interior, the new model may attract a limited audience due to its cost.

ID. Buzz Prices
As reported by Automotive News, the average selling price of new minivans in July was $46,722. Consumer Guide recently evaluated a well-equipped 2024 Chrysler Pacifica Hybrid Premium S Appearance, which listed for $62,405, showcasing the high end of the minivan luxury market.
Trim Levels
Volkswagen has revealed pricing for three ID. Buzz trim levels: Pro S, Pro S Plus, and 1st Edition. Starting at $62,405, the Pro S features a single-motor, rear-wheel-drive setup with 282 horsepower and seats seven passengers. The Pro S Plus offers options for captain’s chairs, reducing seating to six, along with premium Harman Kardon audio and a 360-degree surround-view camera. This trim can be powered by either a rear-drive system or a dual-motor all-wheel-drive (AWD) configuration, increasing power to 335 horsepower. Prices for the Pro S Plus start at $65,045 for rear drive and $69,545 for AWD.
The First Edition starts at $67,045 with rear-wheel drive and $71,545 with AWD. This model also boasts exclusive features, including 20-inch wheels.
Competition
In 2023, Americans purchased approximately 165,000 minivans. The ID. Buzz’s premium pricing may deter traditional minivan buyers from opting for this new model over established names like the Chrysler Pacifica, Honda Odyssey, Kia Carnival, or Toyota Sienna. Instead, it may appeal more to early adopters eager for the latest electric vehicle. For sustained success, the Buzz will need lower-priced trim options that compete more directly with standard minivan pricing.
The ID. Buzz is set to hit U.S. Volkswagen dealerships later this year.
