The current generation of the Nissan Frontier has been around for just two years, but its history goes back much further. This midsize truck continues to embody the characteristics that have made pickups the top choice for American workers: a sturdy boxed ladder frame, leaf-spring rear suspension, and a powerful engine with more than four cylinders. For 2025, the Frontier enhances its lineup by offering a six-foot bed option for nearly all Crew Cab models and increasing its maximum towing capacity.
Previously, the six-foot bed was exclusively available on the SV trim for the Crew Cab, but now it can be added to the Pro-4X and SL trims as well. All Frontier King Cabs already featured the six-foot bed, so this change broadens that option across the majority of the model lineup. The truck is powered by a 3.8-liter V6 engine that provides 310 horsepower and 281 lb-ft of torque.
The V6 is mated to a nine-speed automatic transmission and every model comes equipped with an active brake limited-slip differential. The Pro-4X, designed for off-road performance, includes an upgraded e-locking differential alongside Bilstein suspension components and oversized fenders, giving it a more aggressive appearance.
In other aspects, the Frontier will largely remain unchanged, but notable updates for 2025 include a fresh 17-inch wheel design on select models, a new tailgate for the Pro-X and Pro-4X variants, a redesigned dashboard, and the addition of a vibrant Afterburner Orange exterior color.
Nissan may not be synonymous with luxury, but it has incorporated several enhancements based on customer feedback, such as a standard telescoping steering wheel across all models and four-way power seats for front passengers in SL, Pro-X, and Pro-4X trims.
For the drivers of Frontier SV and higher trims, upgrades include a six-way power-adjustable driver’s seat that includes lumbar support, as well as a larger 12.3-inch center touchscreen. Additionally, wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay capabilities are now available, ensuring compatibility for most users—unless, of course, someone is still using an old Nokia. Plus, every Frontier now comes standard with a sliding rear window.
Towing capacity is enhanced for 2025, reaching a maximum of 7,150 pounds, which is the highest towing figure available, though it won’t apply to every configuration. However, Nissan assures that all 2025 Frontiers will see a 500-pound increase in their towing ratings compared to the previous model year.
The 2025 Nissan Frontier will begin arriving at dealerships this summer, with pricing information expected to be released closer to the sales date. As a point of reference, the current starting price for the Frontier in the U.S. is $32,020, including shipping costs.
