Nissan has unveiled its latest full-size SUV, the 2025 Armada, which marks the beginning of its third generation. This new model features a bold new front design, enhanced technology, increased luxury, and the introduction of a rugged Pro-4X trim level.
Underneath the hood, the Armada is powered by Nissan’s 3.5-liter twin-turbo VR35DDTT V6 engine, generating 425 horsepower and 516 lb-ft of torque—this is an increase of 25 horsepower and 103 lb-ft compared to the previous V8 model. Nissan claims that this new engine provides the highest standard horsepower in its class without the use of electric power. The engine is paired with a nine-speed automatic transmission featuring paddle shifters, allowing the 2025 Armada to tow up to 8,500 pounds, supported by a Trailer Blind Spot Monitoring system, a first for Nissan.
The off-road-focused Pro-4X variant adds features such as all-terrain tires, improved approach angles (33.9 degrees for approach, 25.3 for breakover, and 24.3 for departure), skid plates, a locking differential, and adaptive air suspension. It also includes multiple off-road driving modes, Hill Descent Control, and a camera system that offers a view through the engine bay, similar to Land Rover models. The Armada Pro-4X boasts a ground clearance of 9.6 inches.
All new Armada models utilize a body-on-frame design with double wishbone suspension for both front and rear. Higher trims will come with air suspension, while lower trims will feature coil suspension.
Nissan emphasizes the Armada’s off-road capabilities, highlighting its close relation to the new Patrol, which is also being unveiled internationally, alongside the upscale Infiniti QX80.
On the luxury side, the new Platinum Reserve trim comes equipped with massaging front seats, adaptive air suspension, and 22-inch wheels (with standard 18-inch wheels). Technologically, the Armada enhances its features with 64-color ambient lighting, options for two 14.3-inch screens with Google built in (with dual 12.3-inch displays as standard), and an optional 12-speaker, 600-watt Klipsch audio system that Nissan takes great pride in. Wireless connectivity for Apple CarPlay and Android Auto is standard, along with six USB-C ports.
Cargo space behind the third row has increased to 20.4 cubic feet, representing a 24% improvement over the previous model. Additionally, passengers in the first and third rows benefit from increased legroom, with 4.2 inches and 5.7 inches more, respectively. The Armada also features eight cupholders and four bottle holders throughout for added convenience.
While pricing for Nissan’s new flagship SUV has yet to be announced, the 2025 Armada is expected to go on sale in late 2024.
