For 2025, the Jeep Wrangler retains many of its classic features. It continues to be a convertible, a 4×4, and a popular choice among enthusiasts. However, the latest lineup signifies a shift in tradition as it eliminates a long-standing feature: manual crank windows.
I was taken aback, much like you might be, when I first came across this news. In a press release on Tuesday, Jeep announced that power windows and locks are now standard across all Wrangler models. This change is accompanied by new elements such as a military olive drab-inspired ’41 exterior paint color and a feature termed Active Cab Ventilation. While these updates are interesting, they are overshadowed by the fact that the Wrangler was among the last models to offer hand-crank windows.
This change likely aims to streamline manufacturing since nearly every new Jeep model already came equipped with power windows. While some may lament the loss of manual windows and locks—feeling it compromises the vehicle’s simplicity—Jeep is adapting its production to be more efficient by eliminating features that have become less essential.
Of course, many enthusiasts might express disappointment over Jeep’s decision to phase out manual windows and locks, insisting, “I loved Jeeps for their simplicity.” They may argue that adding more electrical parts could lead to future failures. While this concern is valid, there are many newer components to manage, and dismissing the increase in standards, such as the introduction of electrical switches, might be short-sighted—just as we wouldn’t have wanted to reject the advancements of anti-lock brakes.
On a brighter note, Jeep will continue to offer the Wrangler with a manual transmission in 2025. Currently, the six-speed manual is the exclusive gearbox option for models equipped with the 3.6-liter Pentastar V6 engine. While this is a positive sign for purists who prefer to shift gears themselves, it also indicates that most new Wranglers will likely feature the 2.0-liter turbo four-cylinder engine.
