While the demand for electric vehicles may be plateauing, Cadillac is forging ahead by introducing electric models across most of its operational segments, even pioneering new segments in some cases.

The newest addition to their electric lineup is the 2025 Optiq, a compact crossover built on General Motors’ cutting-edge Ultium EV platform and battery technology. Scheduled for release later this year, Cadillac anticipates the starting price to be around $54,000, including destination fees.

This price places the Optiq marginally cheaper than the midsize Lyriq, which commences at $58,590 for the 2024 model year, including destination charges. Nevertheless, the Optiq comes generously equipped with standard features such as dual-motor all-wheel drive, GM’s Super Cruise automated highway driving assistance system, a 33-inch display that seamlessly integrates digital screens for the gauge cluster and infotainment, as well as a premium 19-speaker AKG audio system with Dolby Atmos.

Incorporating unique elements like laser-etched glass on the rear quarter panel, a seamlessly integrated glass roof, and choreographed lighting that greets the driver upon approach, the Optiq sets itself apart.

The Optiq will be powered by an 85-kwh battery pack estimated to deliver a range of 300 miles. With a DC fast-charger, users can expect to add nearly 80 miles of range in just 10 minutes.

The dual motors offer a combined 300 hp of power. To maximize efficiency, the front motor can independently provide up to 200 hp for steady driving conditions, activating the all-wheel drive system only when necessary. Additionally, a drive mode selector with a Sport mode is part of the package.

Although Cadillac has not disclosed specific performance figures, save for a towing capacity of 1,500 pounds, Green Car Reports has revealed that the Optiq’s performance engineer comes from the team responsible for Cadillac’s high-performance Blackwing models. This strategic move aims to ensure that the Optiq provides a more exhilarating driving experience, potentially appealing to younger buyers, particularly older Millennials, according to Green Car Reports.

Measuring 190 inches in length, the Optiq shares a similar size as the 2024 Chevrolet Equinox EV, which also leverages Ultium technology. Like its counterpart, the Optiq offers ample space for a compact crossover. While it lacks a front trunk, cargo capacity is generous at 26 cubic feet in standard configuration, expandable to 57 cubic feet with the rear seats folded down.

Both the Optiq and Equinox EV will be manufactured at the same facility, GM’s Ramos Arizpe plant in Mexico. In contrast to the Equinox EV, the Optiq will be available in 10 global regions, including select European markets, Australia, New Zealand, and the crucial Chinese market.
