While it’s not unusual for a performance car to receive an updated performance package, General Motors (GM) deserves recognition for enhancing its V8-powered, rear-wheel-drive performance sedan in 2025, especially as many competitors pivot away from this category. The introduction of the new Precision Package for the 2025 Cadillac CT5-V Blackwing may follow a familiar formula for GM, but it’s encouraging to see such vehicles continue to evolve.

The CT5-V Blackwing was already a strong contender in the luxury sedan segment, capable of rivaling and occasionally outperforming models like the BMW M5 and Mercedes-AMG E63 on the track. The new Precision Package introduces a series of small enhancements aimed at significantly improving ride quality and overall performance.

The Precision Package introduces enhanced spring rates, updated bushings, and recalibrated MagnaRide dampers to boost on-track performance while maintaining a comfortable ride on regular roads. The addition of new steering knuckles and rear toe links improves wheel alignment for track applications. Furthermore, a sturdier front stabilizer, along with updates to the steering chassis controls and rear differential, enhances steering response and road grip. Additionally, upgraded carbon ceramic brakes are included as part of the performance package.

For those who may not venture onto the track, the 2025 CT5-V Blackwing also received other enhancements earlier this year, ensuring a well-rounded update. Three new color options—Drift Metallic, Deep Space Metallic, and Typhoon Metallic—were introduced, along with Cadillac’s new 33-inch infotainment screen and design updates to the grille and front fascia, keeping the vehicle’s exterior appealing.

Currently, the CT5-V Blackwing is a standout in the market. Equipped with a supercharged V8 that delivers 668 horsepower and 659 lb-ft of torque, it offers an optional six-speed manual transmission and rear-wheel drive, making it the last of its kind among traditional super sedans. In contrast, the new BMW M5 has shifted to a hybrid setup, and Mercedes-AMG is incorporating hybrid technology into its V8 and inline-six engines, while the upcoming Audi RS6 Avant is expected to become a plug-in hybrid.
