The freshly debuted 2024 Subaru Crosstrek excels in meeting consumer expectations: It offers impressive capability without overshadowing the overall driving experience. However, for those seeking a vehicle that prioritizes ruggedness, the 2024 Subaru Crosstrek Wilderness is here to guide enthusiasts towards the wilderness it’s named after.

Adding to the lineup alongside the Forester and Outback Wilderness models, the toughened Crosstrek strikes a harmonious balance between enhanced off-road capabilities and refined unibody construction. This variant caters to individuals seeking a more cost-effective alternative to off-road trucks while still requiring or desiring increased capability. The Crosstrek Wilderness now features extended springs and shocks, elevating ground clearance by 0.6 inches to a total of 9.3 inches. This enhancement results in improved approach, breakover, and departure angles at 20, 21.1, and 33, respectively, aided by revised body cladding. These upgrades mirror the performance attributes of a 2023 Chevy Colorado Z71.
The Crosstrek Wilderness is equipped with a front skid plate for safeguarding its drivetrain. It incorporates a roll indicator, hill descent control, and multiple terrain modes to enhance stability across all types of terrain. Traction is optimized through a revised rear-axle ratio, torque vectoring, and Yokohama Geolandar all-terrain tires with raised white lettering mounted on exclusive 17-inch alloy wheels. Additionally, an anti-glare hood decal improves visibility when driving towards the sun.
To fully utilize its enhanced off-road capabilities, the Crosstrek Wilderness features a ladder-style roof rack capable of carrying up to 176 pounds dynamically and 700 pounds statically. Coupled with water-resistant interior upholstery and standard all-weather floor mats, this model ensures practicality on outdoor expeditions.

If the Crosstrek Wilderness alone can’t accommodate all your gear, you can opt for hauling a trailer, thanks to the enhanced 3,500-pound tow rating (equivalent to the Forester) facilitated by a transmission cooler. The power output remains consistent at 182 horsepower and 176 pound-feet of torque from a 2.5-liter flat-four engine. While the 2.4-liter turbo engine found in the WRX would be a welcome addition, it’s currently unavailable (time to step up, Subaru).
Distinctive in its lineup, the Wilderness model offers the exclusive Geyser Blue paint option reserved for Subaru’s off-road segment. It features copper contrast stitching and copper accents on the shifter, gauge rings, and leather-wrapped steering wheel. Standard amenities comprise keyless entry, steering-responsive LED headlights, dual-zone climate control, heated front seats, mirrors, and windshield. Furthermore, Subaru Eyesight ADAS and an 11.6-inch infotainment touchscreen with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto functionality are included. Optional features entail a power moonroof, 10-way power driver’s seat, and a 10-speaker Harman Kardon audio system.
Manufactured in Lafayette, Indiana, the 2024 Subaru Crosstrek Wilderness is slated to hit dealerships in Fall 2023. It will commence at a delivered price of $33,290, and it’s highly unlikely that these units will stay idle on dealer lots at such an enticing price point.
