General Motors seems to have inadvertently confirmed intentions to launch Cadillac’s initial high-performance electric vehicle, the 2024 Cadillac Lyriq V. The exact arrival date remains uncertain, but the presence of the vehicle appears highly likely at this juncture.
A misstep by GM was noticed on Cadillac’s official accessories website, where an observer from Cadillac Society spotted a listing for a V variant under the 2024 Lyriq. The V option has since been removed from the drop-down menu, although screenshots were taken as evidence before the alteration. When approached for comment, Cadillac chose not to discuss the modification.
While the certainty of the 2024 Lyriq V’s debut remains unclear, signs hint at its journey to the market based on previous statements from Cadillac officials. Inquiries regarding the Lyriq V in the past prompted confirmation from GM’s head of interior design that V-Series variants will continue to be a part of Cadillac’s electrified lineup. While not explicitly acknowledging a Lyriq V model, the likelihood seems greater compared to the forthcoming smaller Cadillac EV for this year or the upscale Celestiq. However, the introduction of Blackwing remains less definitive, a matter to be addressed by Cadillac in due course.
In the interim, assumptions can be made about what to anticipate from Cadillac’s initial performance-oriented electric offerings. At its launch, the Lyriq boasted 340 horsepower and 325 pound-feet of torque, propelling its weight of 5,610 pounds. It’s improbable that significant weight reduction will occur without costly materials, yet enhancing power from its substantial 102-kilowatt-hour battery should be feasible. With its dimensions compared to the battery capacity of the larger 1,000-hp GMC Hummer EV, a fair projection would be around 500 horsepower, transforming the Lyriq into a spirited cruiser befitting an electric V-Series model.
If the upcoming Lyriq V is indeed scheduled for a 2024 release, its official debut could occur within a year, with a subsequent launch shortly thereafter. Possibly even sooner—a victory for Cadillac’s prototype racing team might serve as an opportune moment to announce the inaugural electric V variant, don’t you think?
