The Audi Q8 E-Tron represents the leading electric SUV from the German automaker and has undergone recent enhancements for the 2024 edition. The practice of automakers providing purely electric vehicles that share designations and structures with their petrol-powered counterparts can be perplexing for many, including us. Audi has yet to alter this practice. However, they have made significant improvements such as augmenting the range with a redesigned battery pack, enhancing efficiency through modifications to the rear motor, and incorporating various updates to further refine the Q8 E-Tron, albeit at a premium cost.

The upcoming 2024 Q8 E-Tron is offered in two body variations: a classically designed crossover and a more aerodynamic SUV coupe known as the Sportback. Fundamentally, they are identical. Both are equipped with a motor on each axle; however, for the 2024 model year, the rear motor has seen an increase in windings from 12 to 14. This enhancement results in more torque but also contributes to a slightly higher complexity in manufacturing, which may be linked to the price raise on the E-Tron. The basic 2024 model is priced $3,500 higher than its 2023 predecessor.

Another factor influencing the price hike is the integration of new prismatic battery cells. These revised cells feature an altered chemistry and internal build, leading to increased capacity. Furthermore, enhancements to the battery pack structure and management system have enabled Audi to accommodate additional cells in the pack and utilize a broader voltage range available from the cells. These modifications have empowered the vehicle to achieve a maximum range of 300 miles, exclusively available on the Sportback E-Trons equipped with the “ultra” package and the sizable 106-kWh battery.

The 2024 model initiates at $75,495 for a base Premium model. The equivalent entry-level variant in Sportback configuration carries a price tag of $78,895. These prices encompass destination charges. Due to their more aerodynamic design, the Sportback models exhibit a marginally longer range across all trims compared to their more traditionally shaped counterparts.

Additional refinements to the E-Tron for 2024 involve revamped suspension and steering systems. Although the spring rates and damping settings appear to have remained relatively unchanged, many suspension components have reportedly been fortified. Furthermore, the steering ratio has been expedited from 15.8:1 to 14.6:1. These modifications, combined with reconfigured drive modes for a more distinct driving experience, are anticipated to create a new driving persona for the Audi.

The enhanced Q8 E-Tron is expected to reach dealerships this summer. The conventional ICE-powered Q8 still remains available for purchase.
