An announcement from the car manufacturer confirmed that a new model, the 2024 Acura Integra Type S, is scheduled to launch in the summer of 2023. This high-performance sedan will be powered by the same engine found in the 2023 Civic Type R, featuring a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine paired with a six-speed manual gearbox and limited-slip differential. Although the Honda variant produces 315 horsepower, Acura has hinted that the Integra Type S will exceed the 300-horsepower mark.

The new addition to the Type S lineup aims to replicate the driving experience of the most extreme Civic model while presenting a more sophisticated and refined approach, akin to a Type R dressed in formal attire.

Further details are currently scarce, however, we had the opportunity to test drive a prototype of the Integra Type S last October at Honda’s Proving Grounds in Tochigi, Japan. You can find our impressions here.

“I increased the speed as I entered the banking on the next lap, carrying more momentum into the corner and allowing the vehicle to naturally drift towards the top lane—the outermost lane. I inquired with my companion seated beside me if he was comfortable with this maneuver as I smoothly steered to the right. He calmly responded: “You have experience on oval tracks.” Admittedly, due to a slight language barrier, I was unsure whether he intended it as a compliment or a query, yet he did not raise any objections.

I ascended to the outermost lane and applied more throttle to establish a rhythm with the vehicle. The Integra smoothly hugged the wall, resembling a sled navigating a bobsleigh track. I remained focused on the road ahead, neglecting the speedometer momentarily, but a quick glance revealed a speed of 114, slightly surpassing the predetermined limit. I am confident that the Integra could effortlessly sustain speeds of 126 or even 145 mph in that top lane. Regrettably, this was an experiment I did not pursue further.” —Jerry Perez, Managing Editor

Acura has mentioned that pricing and additional specifics will be disclosed closer to the launch date.
