The 2023 Jeep Wrangler Willys 4xe is set to expand the automaker’s lineup of plug-in hybrids, focusing on the storied title as the brand steers towards a fresh electric era.

This variant banks on the pre-existing Wrangler 4xe plug-in hybrid powertrain. It is equipped with a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine, coupled with two electric motors and a 17-kWh battery unit. It boasts 375 horsepower and 470 lb-ft of torque, and can achieve 49 MPGe along with 21 miles of electric-only driving range.

The essence of the Willys 4xe model primarily lies in its aesthetic details. Naturally, a Willys decal adorns the bonnet, accented with an electric blue outline that bridges the gap between the traditional name and the electric components beneath. At the back, the classic vintage “4-wheel-drive” decal, now with the addition of “electric,” denoting the hybrid powertrain. The electric blue theme is extended throughout the vehicle, noticeable on the tow hooks and various badges.

Highlighted features encompass standard LED headlamps and fog lights, all-weather floor mats, and a premium 9-speaker sound system from Alpine. External embellishments consist of rock rails, a black-painted grille, and 17-inch black alloy wheels. The optionally available “Sun and Screen” package includes a power-retractable roof and an 8.4-inch touchscreen Uconnect infotainment interface.

For top-notch off-road performance, the Willys 4xe is fully equipped for the task. It boasts the Selec-Trac full-time 4WD system with a 2.72:1 low-range gear ratio, and sturdy Dana 44 axles. Additionally, there’s a rear limited-slip differential to ensure smooth navigation on challenging trails, along with 10.1 inches of ground clearance as standard.

Willys, the original creator of the first Jeep, holds a significant place in the company’s history to this day. Incorporating the name into a hybrid model demonstrates Jeep’s commitment to honoring its origins amidst advancing technology. Similar to many American auto manufacturers, anticipate these traditional elements to uphold a key role in the company’s branding moving forward.
