The GMC Yukon AT4 is an off-road SUV designed to accommodate families and friends alike. As a counterpart to the Chevy Z71 Tahoe, it is equipped with various components aimed at enhancing its off-road capabilities. Until now, the AT4 trim has featured only one engine option: GM’s 5.3-liter V8. However, this will change for the 2022 model year.
In line with the philosophy that "bigger is better," GMC is introducing the 6.2-liter V8 engine to the AT4 trim, as reported by GM Authority. This more powerful engine delivers 420 horsepower and 460 pound-feet of torque, marking an increase of 65 horsepower and 77 pound-feet over the existing 5.3-liter option.
Curiously, GMC previously excluded the 6.2-liter V8 from the AT4, especially considering that it is offered in the Denali trim. It’s also important to mention that the AT4 trim does not come with the 3.0-liter Duramax diesel engine. This limitation is due to the unique front fascia of the vehicle, which reportedly interferes with the engine’s intercooler.
As of now, GMC has not released pricing details for the AT4 equipped with the 6.2-liter V8. Currently, the standard AT4 starts at $66,620 with the 5.3-liter V8. In the higher Denali trim, the larger V8 adds a $1,625 premium over the 3.0-liter Duramax, which itself is $870 more costly than the 5.3-liter found in the SLT trim. Based on this pricing structure, it is reasonable to anticipate a potential premium of around $2,500 for the 6.2-liter V8 over the base model, although GMC will ultimately determine the final pricing when the new model year is released.
Update at 2:40 p.m. on 08/23/2021: A Chevy representative has confirmed that the 6.2-liter V8 will also be available in the Tahoe/Suburban Z71, as well as the RST and Premier trims. However, there are currently no plans to offer the 3.0L Duramax in the Z71.
