The term “Tremor” conjures images of perilous mini-earthquakes and for some, it may remind them of monstrous creatures from a notoriously cheesy 1990s horror comedy. However, a new item linked to the automotive world is poised to capture the attention of car enthusiasts: the 2020 Ford Super Duty Tremor package. This off-road enhancement aims to compete with the formidable Ram Power Wagon.

Positioned above the FX4 package, the Tremor kit enhances off-road capabilities, featuring everything included in FX4 along with additional upgrades. It boasts 35-inch tires and distinctive 18-inch wheels, similar to the optional beadlock rollers available on the Ford Raptor. A factory-installed 2-inch lift increases the overall ground clearance to 10.8 inches, and its water fording ability is elevated to 33 inches. Additionally, it improves the approach and departure angles to 31.65 and 24.51 degrees, respectively.

Todd Eckert, Ford’s truck group marketing manager, noted, “There is a growing demographic of Super Duty users who engage in activities beyond just work. They fish, camp, and tow boats during the weekends, often venturing off-road. We crafted this truck specifically for them, providing enhanced ground clearance, larger shocks, bigger tires, and improved off-road capabilities. Tremor is designed to balance the demands of work with the needs of outdoor adventures.”

To ensure stability, the Tremor package includes progressive rate springs and custom 1.7-inch piston twin-tube dampers that help manage body motion while preserving the Super Duty’s towing and payload capabilities. Unlike some competitors and even the Ford Raptor, the Tremor will not compromise on maximum towing and payload capacities despite the upgraded shocks. Ford has stated that the Tremor will offer superior towing and payload capabilities compared to the Ram Power Wagon, although specific numbers have yet to be released.

Standard features of the Tremor include a locking rear differential and a limit-slip front differential provided by Dana. Some trims will come equipped with off-road running boards inspired by the Raptor. For Lariat through Platinum-grade Super Duties, buyers can choose either power-deployable or fixed running boards.

The Tremor package also introduces several technological advancements, including a Rock Crawl mode in the Terrain Management system, which, in combination with low range, assists drivers in overcoming challenging obstacles. Trail Control, first implemented in the Ranger FX4 and the 2019 Raptor, will be available on the Super Duty to provide an off-road experience akin to cruise control.

The Tremor is not a trim level but an add-on package available for all Super Duty models from XLT to Platinum. Buyers can choose this package with either the cutting-edge 6.7-liter Power Stroke diesel engine or the robust 7.3-liter gasoline V8. It’s also offered on both F-250 and F-350 models, with the only requirements being that the truck must have four-wheel drive and a short bed with a SuperCrew cab.

The Tremor package is set to be orderable later this year, alongside the new 2020 Ford Super Duty lineup. Further details regarding pricing and specifications will be released closer to the launch date.

In summary, the Tremor name is fitting for the new iteration of the 2020 Ford Super Duty, as it is engineered for off-road adventures. Fortunately, unlike the feared underground creatures, this truck is designed to traverse rugged terrains without posing a danger to its occupants..
