Vehicle Details: 2019 Ram Heavy Duty 2500 and 3500

Overview: Hot on the heels of the successful redesign of the Ram 1500, Ram is unveiling a refreshed version of its Heavy Duty truck series. Not only does this lineup feature a standout interior, but the Cummins diesel variant impressively delivers 1,000 pound-feet of torque, making it a true powerhouse on the road.

Key Updates: Designed to handle substantial workloads, the new Ram Heavy Duty lineup is a direct response to the ongoing competition in the heavy-duty truck segment. It is equipped with a brand-new, high-output 6.7-liter Cummins turbodiesel engine that generates 1,000 pound-feet of torque and 400 horsepower. For maximum towing capabilities, the dual-rear-wheel Ram 3500HD can tow up to 35,100 pounds and has a payload capacity of 7,680 pounds when properly configured.

The redesigned Heavy Duty lineup showcases a grille and LED headlights that echo the design of its lighter counterpart, the Ram 1500. The interior has also received a significant makeover, featuring an available 12-inch Uconnect display, along with other enhancements reminiscent of the upgrades seen in the 2019 Ram 1500.

Notable Quote: “Ram Heavy Duty owners continuously expect top-tier capability to complete significant tasks. With our Cummins engine delivering 1,000 pound-feet of torque and a towing capacity of 35,100 lbs., we’ve achieved critical milestones in this segment,” stated Reid Bigland, head of Ram. “We have also incorporated luxury and technology into the truck, which were previously absent from heavy-duty pickups. Our high-quality interiors, advanced safety systems, and our award-winning Uconnect technology make the Ram 2500 and 3500 the best trucks we’ve ever produced.”

Additional Insights: While the exceptional torque is expected to capture the spotlight, the new truck’s interior and features are equally impressive, aligning with Ram’s recent high standards in this area. Each interior will be tailored to the selected trim, resulting in a unique look for the Limited compared to the Laramie Longhorn. The diesel-powered Heavy Duty will feature the traditional column-mounted shifter, while the gas variants will come with a rotary dial shifter.

Buyers will also have the option of a class-exclusive rear air suspension that includes features like Bed Lowering Mode, Normal/Payload Mode, and Trailer-Tow Mode.

For the first time, a range of advanced safety technologies will be offered, such as semi-autonomous emergency braking, adaptive cruise control, and forward collision warning. A variety of cameras will assist in truck maneuverability, ease of trailer hook-ups, and monitoring cargo. A new tire pressure monitoring system supports up to six pickup tires and twelve trailer tires, accommodating four different trailer profiles.

The 6.4-liter Hemi V8 now pairs with a new eight-speed automatic transmission, producing 410 horsepower and 429 pound-feet of torque.

The Power Wagon also returns with the updated design for the 2019 model year.

While pricing details are not yet available, the truck is anticipated to hit the market later this year.
