Year, Make, Model: 2019 Hyundai i30 Fastback N

Topline: Hyundai has unveiled a four-door variant of its popular i30 N, known as the Fastback, just ahead of the Paris Motor Show. Similar to the standard i30 N, this model will not be available in the U.S. market.

What’s New: The i30 Fastback N features a design that retains the performance of the i30 N but introduces a less functional rear, reminiscent of a Mercedes-AMG GT 4-Door Coupe affixed to the back of an Elantra. This model is poised to become the first high-performance four-door coupe in the non-luxury compact category—a “five-door hot coupe,” as Hyundai describes it.

Think of it as an AMG CLS for those who seek a sporty experience without the luxury price tag—or even as a more affordable alternative to the Kia Stinger.

Quotable: “With the all-new i30 Fastback N, Hyundai again sets new standards in the market, enhancing the brand’s appeal with highly emotional products,” stated Andreas-Christoph Hofmann, Vice President of Marketing and Product at Hyundai Motor Europe. “The i30 N’s sales success clearly demonstrates that our N models don’t just deliver cars; we create an experience—the unique N feeling that puts a smile on our customers’ faces.”

What You Need to Know: Aside from its sleek sedan-like shape, the Fastback N shares all specifications with the standard hatchback i30 N. It is powered by a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine that generates either 247 horsepower or 272 when equipped with the Performance Package. Both configurations deliver 260 pound-feet of torque and can achieve a top speed of 155 mph. With the Performance Package, it can accelerate from 0 to 62 mph in 6.1 seconds, while the base model completes the same sprint in 6.4 seconds.

The interior is adorned with sporty red accents, and the vehicle comes standard with a six-speed manual transmission along with a robust wheel, tire, and brake package—typical features expected in a hot hatch, or rather, a five-door hot coupe.

The 2019 Hyundai i30 Fastback N will be showcased at the Paris Motor Show.
