When Cadillac debuted the CT6 at the New York International Auto Show three years ago, one element was conspicuously absent: an 8-cylinder engine. This omission was notable given the American tradition that associates large V8 engines with luxury sedans. However, Cadillac had a valid reason, as they were reserving the best for last.
The luxury brand is set to introduce the V-Sport trim for the 2019 CT6, featuring a twin-turbocharged V8 engine—an industry first for Cadillac. This powerful new engine generates 550 horsepower and 627 pound-feet of torque, which, while not matching the CTS-V’s performance, is still impressive. The engine delivers power to all four wheels and is paired with a sophisticated 10-speed automatic transmission. Beyond the engine enhancements, the CT6 also showcases a redesigned front fascia, which includes a sleek dark mesh grille. It rides on stylish 20-inch multi-spoke wheels fitted with summer-only tires that are specially tuned for the Cadillac V-Sport. These low-profile tires are designed to provide responsive handling and performance suitable for the track while ensuring comfort and insulation.
Additional upgrades encompass a mechanical limited-slip differential and 19-inch Brembo brakes featuring four pistons. The car’s steering and suspension systems have also been refined with the introduction of Magnetic Ride Control for enhanced performance.
The starting price for the high-performance CT6 V-Sport has yet to be revealed. A Cadillac representative indicated that pricing will be announced closer to the vehicle’s launch in early 2019.
