While it’s true that crossover vehicles aren’t always favored by automotive enthusiasts, the compact SUV segment’s growth has continued unabated in 2017. Thankfully, car lovers won’t necessarily have to say goodbye to their unique two-seaters just yet, as there are still enjoyable options available for those needing a practical vehicle.

Take the CX-9, for instance; this model represents Mazda’s effort to break the mold of dull SUVs. For 2018, it is set to introduce state-of-the-art features while remaining reasonably priced. In contrast to previous editions that focused on enhancing the CX-9’s “Zoom-Zoom” identity, the 2018 version will aim to maintain its IIHS “Top Safety Pick+” designation.

On Tuesday, Mazda revealed that the 2018 CX-9 is scheduled to hit dealerships later this month. It will introduce new features designed to align it with the rest of Mazda’s technologically advanced crossover range. This model now incorporates Mazda’s G-Vectoring technology, aiming to enhance the driving experience by minimizing slight steering wheel movements, thereby making driving more enjoyable and less taxing. Additionally, it will feature Smart City Brake Support, Rear Cross-Traffic Alert, and Blind Spot Monitoring as standard equipment.

Starting at $32,130, the entry-level CX-9 Sport includes a Mazda Connect infotainment system complete with smartphone integration and Bluetooth connectivity, alongside other fundamental Mazda technology. For an additional $1,290, the new Sports package offers enhanced features, including Radar Cruise Control, Lane Departure Warning, Lane-Keep Assist, heated seats, and other premium additions.

The high-end CX-9 Signature trim boasts a more luxurious ambiance, thanks to its elegant rosewood interior accents, Nappa leather seats, and LED badge illumination. Priced at $44,315, this trim is equipped with standard i-Active all-wheel drive, which is an optional feature on the Sport, Touring, and Grand Touring models.
