Behold, the age of electric vehicles is upon us. This innovative wave has now reached Alfa Romeo’s shores, where the beloved yet controversial Alfa Romeo Giulia is poised to make the transition to a fully electric platform for its next iteration.

As per a publication from Autocar, Alfa Romeo CEO Jean-Philippe Imparato has officially announced that the Giulia will embrace full electrification, unveiling specifics regarding charging efficiency, driving range, model variants, and the distribution of power among different trims. Notably, details regarding the high-performance Giulia Quadrifoglio have also been revealed.

The current Giulia Quadrifoglio has spent a considerable period in the limelight, enduring its share of challenges along the way. While it boasts exceptional speed and handling, early reliability issues have somewhat tarnished its reputation. The present model of the Giulia is powered by two engines: a turbocharged inline-four and a twin-turbo Ferrari-sourced 90-degree V6.

These conventional powertrains will be entirely replaced by electric alternatives. The base trim will deliver 345 horsepower from undisclosed motor configurations, likely powering a single axle. The mid-tier Veloce, currently offering 280 hp, is projected to feature approximately 790 hp. Meanwhile, the range-topping Quadrifoglio is expected to boast about 1,000 hp, likely employing an all-wheel-drive system with undisclosed motor details.

Imparato has also emphasized the significance of driving range and swift charging capabilities for the upcoming Giulia, indicating a 435-mile range under the European WLTP testing protocol and confirming the vehicle’s 800-volt charging infrastructure, promising an 18-minute charge from 10% to 80%. No specifics have been provided regarding the battery type or its energy storage capacity. Additionally, Imperato has confirmed the imminent arrival of a compact SUV, possibly named Brennero, and a large sedan set to rival the Porsche Taycan and Tesla Model S.

Alfa Romeo is resolutely committed to transitioning entirely to electric propulsion. The impact this move will have on the brand’s sales remains uncertain. However, one certainty remains: speed will not be compromised.
